Noooooooo! Must... finish... Top.... 20... But how am I going to manage that, after today's crappy pick? Going low on Link doesn't make sense, but going too high doesn't either, as it seems apparent to me that AC has helped Seph out since the Spring. Ehhhhh. I'm going going to call 'em like I see 'em, and let the chips fall where they may.

Match #65 Results
Sephiroth 56.07%
Mario 43.93%
"You know, this match is reminding me why we have the term "Clinkeroth". Two months of hard work owning the main bracket and Sephiroth is treating him like the Midgar Zolom."
- transience
"Sephiroth's strength is incredible. He is far stronger in reality than any stories you may have heard about him."
- Cloud Strife
Those two quotes pretty much sums up the match. After looking great for the first 63 days of the contest, Mario came into his match against Sephiroth and couldn't do much of anything. He'll have to settle for doing 6% better on Sephiroth than he did two years ago... that and winning the main bracket title, of course.
There were 46 Sephiroth predictions and 10 Mario predictions. The consensus was Sephiroth with 51.96% and the average score was 43.71.
Best Five Picks:
1) Heroic Viktor - Sephiroth 55.83% (+49.76)
2) GrapefruitKing - Sephiroth 55.12% (+49.05)
3) Dilated Chemist - Sephiroth 55.00% (+48.93)
4) alpha door - Sephiroth 54.75% (+48.68)
5) StopPokingMe - Sephiroth 54.54% (+48.47)
Heroic Viktor continues his furious comeback attempt with his third #1 pick in six days, and the best prediction today by a wide margin. He's averaged an impressive 49.23 per match over those six days. Sadly, it looks like he's about to run out of time as he's still nearly 10 points back and down to the final day.
GrapefruitKing scores the second best prediction, for his fourth top 5 of the contest. Dilated Chemist once again reaches from beyond the Oracle grave to take the #3 prediction, all but assuring himself of the Final Phase title. Alpha door is fourth for his fourth top 5, and StopPokingMe, not willing to let Heroic Viktor pass him without a fight, takes fifth.
Complete Match Ranking:
http://www.oraclechallenge.com/archives.php?contest=SC2k5&type=match&match=65
Current Leaderboard:
1) Xuxon - 2885.87
2) Master Moltar - 2881.07
3) StopPokingMe - 2878.82
4) Heroic Viktor - 2875.92
5) Haste2 - 2874.13
With one match to go, Xuxon is excellent shape to win the Oracle Title - and it would be fitting if he managed to lock it up with Mario vs Sephiroth, if you consider this piece of history:
http://www.oraclechallenge.com/archives.php?contest=SC2k3&type=total&match=59
Master Moltar holds on to second place, but loses some ground to the rest of the leaders. StopPokingMe remains in third with an excellent prediction, and Heroic Viktor passes Haste2 to move up to fourth. Haste2 drops down to fifth place, and will need to fend off creativename to keep his place on the leaderboard.

Second Half Leaderboard:

3) StopPokingMe - 1516.16
4) Yesmar - 1512.23
5) Camden - 1508.82
With one day left in the contest, kawaiifan shows no signs of relinquishing the iron grip she's held on the second half leaderboard (and its precursor, the second round leaderboard) for most of its existance. Garsha remains in second on this leaderboard, and StopPokingMe is able to pass Yesmar to take over third place. Yesmar drops to fourth, and Camden claims fifth place from yoblazer as yoblazer predicted the wrong winner.

2) Ngamer64 - 794.02
3) Camden - 791.28
4) Xuxon - 788.27
5) Duffer11 - 788.02
With his #3 prediction today, Dilated Chemist stretches his lead on the Final Phase leaderboard to nearly 7 full points over Ngamer. Ngamer is still in second with a comfortable lead over Camden. Camden moves up from fourth to third, passing yoblazer on this leaderboard as well. Xuxon vaults into fourth place from off the leaderboard, while Duffer holds on to his fifth place spot.

If Seph keeps resisting and somehow should manage to finish in the lower 55% region (or even lower, but I don't see that right now), I could even make it back into the Top 10... Go Seph!

Match #66 Results
Link 54.94%
Sephiroth 45.06%
After 66 days of character battles, the Summer Contest 2005 is history and Link is once again the champion. Link was able to handle Sephiroth easily in the final match, although Sephiroth did make things a little closer than many expected. There were 59 predictions for Link and 1 prediction for Sephiroth. The consensus was Link with 56.16% and the average score was 48.12.
Best Five Picks:
1) Dilated Chemist - Link 55.00% (+49.94)
1) red sox 777 - Link 55.00% (+49.94)
1) RevolverAk47 - Link 55.00% (+49.94)
4) Rufus Shinra 18 - Link 55.01% (+49.93)
5) TenkoStar17 - Link 54.84% (+49.90)
Dilated Chemist's late-contest magic continues, and he ties for first today with red sox 777 and brand new predictor RevolverAk47. Rufus Shinra 18 gets the fourth best prediction and TenkoStar17 fifth. Every single prediction in the top 5 today was within 0.1% of the final percentage.
Complete Match Ranking:
http://www.oraclechallenge.com/archives.php?contest=SC2k5&type=match&match=66
Final Leaderboard:
1) Xuxon - 2934.01
2) Master Moltar - 2930.01
3) StopPokingMe - 2928.21
4) Heroic Viktor - 2922.59
5) creativename - 2922.24
Xuxon is our SC2k5 Oracle Champion! Xuxon has been around since the first Oracle Challenge, and finished 5th in 2003. In 2003 he was in first near the end of the contest but fell on match #59 when Sephiroth defeated Mario. This time around he cruised through Sephiroth vs Mario and went on to claim his title one day later.
Master Moltar finished in second place, exactly 4 points behind Xuxon, and like Xuxon has been around since the first contest. This is his first leaderboard finish. Moltar started off in the middle of the pack this contest, but climbed to the top 10 by the end of round 1 and has been on the leaderboard consistently since round 2.
StopPokingMe is another veteran who's predicted every match and had solid finishes, but never finished in the top 5 before. StopPokingMe started off very slow (in 64th after 16 days), but had a meteoric rise half of round 1. He's also been on the leaderboard consistently since round 2, and spent some time battling for position with Moltar.
Heroic Viktor was the early leader in this contest and by day 7 had built up a massive 18.74 point lead over second place. He remained in first for quite a while, but eventually dropped off the leaderboard due to his bold predictions. But he wasn't finished yet, and managed to put together a very impressive run in the last week of the contest to return to the leaderboard.
Creativename finished in fifth, and for a large part of the contest looked like he was the favorite to win it all. Creativename was in first place for 25 straight days, from day 21 to day 45, and was on the leaderboard continuously from day 7 to day 61. As with many of us, the biggest blow to his chances came when he picked Samus to beat Mario, and fell from second to fifth. On the final day of the contest, creativename managed to edge out former champion Haste2 for fifth place, mirroring last contest when he edged out another former champion, kawaiifan, for fifth place.

3) StopPokingMe - 1565.55

Kawaiifan, Oracle Queen and former champion, is the winner of the second half title. She started off slowly in the first round, but put together an excellent second half to finish in the overall top 10. The second half leaderboard didn't change at all today, so Garsha finishes in second, followed by StopPokingMe, Yesmar, and Camden.

Dilated Chemist finishes the tournament with a top pick and a commanding lead of 8 points on the Final Phase leaderboard. We all hope he'll return for the next contest so he can show us what he's able to do when he's present for the matches. Ngamer held on to second on the final phase leaderboard, but was unable to catch his nemesis, Dilated Chemist. Camden finished third in the Final Phase, Duffer11 fourth, and Xuxon fifth.

I'd like to thank Kaxon, King Morgoth, and solarshadow for running this challenge contest after contest. I know I don't post on this board much, but the Oracle Challenge is my favorite part of the contest and basically, I've waited two years for this =). Hopefully I'll see you all again next contest to become the first two-time champ :P.

.Hey, I'd almost have made it on the 2nd Half leaderboard... but it was my best contest so far, at least finishing in the Top 10.
And a big THANKS to you, Kaxon, for running the whole thing. And also to King Morgoth, who helped a lot. And to everybody else that made this possible!
See you next contest - I hope. :-)

Thanks Kaxon for running this; you did an amazing job and truly kept the spirit of the Oracle challenge alive - I can't believe there's a solid 19 people from 2k3, that's pretty impressive!
Thanks to King Morgoth for obvious reasons, as well as to solarshadow for starting it all.

Mandatory end-of-contest post!
First thing first, sincere congratulations to Xuxon who kicked our asses pretty bad (mine especially). After 15 matches, he was in 60th place, 46 points behind the lead. Nice job coming back sir, you deserve it.
and I beat King Morgoth and Kaxon.
Thanks for rubbing it in Alanna =P
I'd also like to thank all previous contest winners who all scored a better average than me. I'll be back guys ;)
And thank everyone for gearing in and fighting. This year was the biggest Oracle contest ever (more predictions than both previous summer contests combined), and it's all thanks to you. Thanks for the nice comments, it's all very appreciated.
Finally I'll join in the praise and thanks Kaxon for the insane work he did this time around. I don't think anyone besides me (for obvious reasons) knows the extent of the work he put in this time around. Not only did he set up a great database and did an insane job keeping this contest running more smoothly than ever, he actually helped this get a level further.
*rough transcript from 3 months ago*
Kaxon: We could set up a database instead of the Excel spreadsheet.
Morgoth: The spreadsheet's already set up.
Kaxon: Yeah but it would accelerate the process.
Morgoth: It'd take a lot of time to get going.
Kaxon: I could work out something to update the predictions automatically.
Morgoth: Wouldn't it be just as much trouble?
Kaxon: I think it can be better.
Morgoth: You're nuts.
Morgoth: I'm in though. >_>
Kaxon: We'll get it done.
Morgoth: Or die trying? <_<
He managed to convince me it would work (and it sure did), and I managed to convince him I could get the website going (I'm not even sure he knows I had never worked on PHP/SQL interaction before >_>. Turned out okay in the end...). What you see now is Kaxon's work, his Oracle dream working without hurts. A damn good job he did.
And as he said, a bunch of improvements / added sections are coming to the website, and we've got a bunch of ideas for the next contest.... no date though, it'll come in between homeworks ;)
Thanks again everyone!

A hearty "Good job!" and a pat on the back to Xuxon, for placing 1st this year. Also, thanks to Morgoth and Kaxon for all the hard work.
This was my third contest, and I increased my final position by a single place over last year. Again. As long as the contests continue, and Oracle continues right along side it, I've got Summer 2008 all but wrapped up.

Congrats to the leaders and nice job for the creator.
What did I place.... 36th? Not to bad, I did make it to 12th at one point but then I predicted Magus really high and fell back to 59th with a few more losses and been building my way up ever since.
Hey, was I the only person to get the cycle? Places 1-5?

Well, I ended up thirty-second. Pretty bad considering that there were only 39 people who predicted all the matches. I guess its how you look at it. But I did fail my goal, to not get surpassed by anyone with less predictions than me, and dilated chemist, you are one resilient guy. I shall do better next year, I promise.

Bit surprised I managed to place 46th, I was going for some upsets towards the end, after I realised I wouldn't even make the top 25 or so (I was the only person to pick Seph for the final for example). It was good fun though, and I'll be back next contest for sure. Gotta add to my top 5 tally :)
Any chance of seeing stuff like that any time soon (Most Top 5's, etc)? I appreciate the work you guys have done so far setting all this up, but I'm guessing that info wouldn't be too tough to obtain. Great job anyway, and congrats to everyone that beat me. *Checks*. Well that'd be EVERYONE else that picked every match, as well as 7 others. Bit embarassing.

There were five people who accomplished that feat this contest:

and now I dance

OmegaRagnarok

Any chance of seeing stuff like that any time soon (Most Top 5's, etc)?
We'll definitely post the records at some point, but I'm not sure when - it will take a little work. But the good news is that once we do the work, we should be able to put up pages where the records will be automatically updated as the contests progress.
