I've always thought a "pure" scoring system would be best. I just figure others would dislike a penalty-free system. But the more superficial the penalty for getting a match wrong, the better. And if we can ditch the penalty altogether that would be ideal, as well as make people give the most honest predictions.

I'm pretty sure this is the last contest where you'll see the 2x penalty - I've disliked it for a long time, and the only reason we didn't change it this contest was not wanting to change too many things at once. I'm not sure about the 5 point penalty yet - I think it makes it more exciting when it matters who wins. (I kind of want to avoid Fantasy Football Syndrome, where you don't care who wins as long as the running back gains 13 more yards or your opponent's quarterback throws an interception).

The Off-Season topic will be busy this year, since both Kaxon and I are starting to agree on at least the It's not quite working anymore part, and we'll need input. I won't start discussing this before the contest's over though, obviously. Oh and I've never received an answer so I'll assume I somehow closed the window without sending that e-mail right?

For my input on the scoring...

I think there needs to be some semblence of a penalty for picking the loser. If I pick Master Chief to win with 50.00%, and you pick Frog to win with 50.50%, you picked the winner, which is more important than the fact that I picked Chief's percentage on the dot. I think anything between 45-49 as a base number on a wrong pick is cool. Abolishing the 2x penalty works for me as well. But having straight percentages without a penalty for picking the loser seems not cool to me.

I think the 45-2x is perfect. It makes everything more exciting. otherwise it won't matter that much who the winner is. Like this someone who is 30 points behind can still climb up a lot by picking upsets and scoring a lot of points in comparision with others. If that wasn't the case risks won't be real risks any more. Like this every contest has stayed exciting till the end.

Just my view on this.

I believe the 45-2x rules should be changed as well. I like 45-x the best since it still punishes you for making a wrong pick and yet not so much that you can fall 20 places in a match... Of course, I could be very biased because I would do so much better with that rule... >_>

Of course somewhere between 44-47 - x would be good to me.

I think either 45-x or 40-x would be the best formula when you pick the wrong winner. As creativename pointed out, it SHOULD decrease hedging (make predictions more honest). Sure, some people might STILL hedge, but it certainly wouldn't be smart to do so. I've hedged quite a few times in this contest, but I wouldn't hedge if it was a "-1x" penalty.

Meanwhile, I don't think 50-x would be such a good idea, either, as there is importance in picking the winner, like Heroic Viktor was saying. Also, I think it IS a good idea to allow some shakeups in the standings still, like ps2rulezzz was saying.

So, I say we do either 45-x or 40-x...

I don't understand the people who think the huge penalty for picking the wrong winner is a good thing. Unless you believe that Frog /w 60 is better than Master Chief /w 50 (which I find ridiculous, personally), let's at least throw 40-x out of the window =P

I'm a big fan of a hybrid system...
50-(ABS(50-Result))-ABS(Result-Prediction) where Result is the character's score and Prediction is, well, obvious. [It could be read (Result - Prediction) too]

That way, on the losing side, you'd get a 50-x on a 50/50 match, 45-x on a 55/45 match and 40-x on a 60/40, etc... It would prevent ridiculous penalties in very close matches while allowing shake ups in matches that aren't that close when people make awful calls...

Oh boy, what a toughie. My gut is saying Mega Man, since he appeared to have that all important Nintendo vote behind him JUST enough to edge by what appeared to be a boosted Sonic. And I've always felt that Vince is just a tick ahead of Tifa, so it feels right that way as well. And CT has been down this year, really no denying it. And MM has always come out ahead of Crono, except for last year's X-stats, which have proven to be quite screwy.

But on the other hand, my bracket and my heart are with Crono. And he's just GOT to win, to keep the Final at least a little bit in doubt, and to save an entire half of the X-stats.

Ah heck, I'll have it both ways.

Mega Man wi-

Wait, no. Advent Children leak = people coming to check the FF7 storyline = Square fans = Crono votes. Do we have enough pirates in our midst for this to amount to much? No. But it shouldn't take much to swing this vote; a couple hundred either way could be just enough.
