Oracle Challenge Discussion Topic 2
From: King Morgoth | Posted: 10/14/2006 7:43:43 PM | Message Detail
KM has all the old Oracle topics archived, I'm sure he could upload them for you if you want to see your earliest guesses.

That's a fun off-season project of mine, uploading all the old topics for everyone to see and laugh in something close to a nice way. I'll try to find a way to do that at some point, since we have everything from SpC2k5 and beyond.

Whenever Kaxon gets back I'll see if we can throw in something tonight...

Match #33 Results
Samus Aran 79.78%
Ada Wong 20.22%

After a decent first rounder, Ada Wong rolls over and dies, making it look like Jade would get tripled...by Nidoran F! Samus comes very close to breaking 80% on Ada Wong and is looking much more in shape than a few days ago. All 121 predictors went with Samus but aimed low, the consensus was 74.34% for an average of 44.14 points.

Best Five Picks:
1) Redtooth - Samus Aran 80.03% (+49.75)
2) phlyerphan1 - Samus Aran 79.29% (+49.51)
3) Lagoona - Samus Aran 79.20% (+49.42)
4) th3l3fty - Samus Aran 79.02% (+49.24)
5) satai_delenn - Samus Aran 78.67% (+48.89)

Aiming high payed off yesterday as Redtooth leaves everyone in the dust for his 3rd Top 5, his 5th overall. phlyerphan1 and Lagoona follow in the mid-49's with their 2nd Top 5 this contest and respectively their 9th and 15th All-Time presence here. th3l3fty takes 4th with his 2rd Top 5 while newcomer satai_delenn grabs the last spot on the list, his 3rd Top 5 this season.

Complete Match Ranking:

Current Leaderboard:
1) Karma Hunter - 1504.08
2) DSRage - 1501.06
3) Draco1214 - 1499.58
4) cyko - 1496.32
5) Kaxon - 1494.33

With everyone at the top slightly spaced out and predicting pretty much the same thing, not much movement. Karma Hunter widens his lead on his 2nd at the top while cyko pays the price of a low prediction, dropping one and allowing Draco to take his spot in 3rd. DSRage and Kaxon keep 2nd and 5th.

Full Standings:
http://www.oraclechallenge.com/archives.php?contest=SC2k6&type=total&match=33

Top Team Scores:
1) Team Don't Get Too Cocky - 95.02 (Lopen: +46.13 / satai_delenn: +48.89)
2) Team Better Than Last Time - 95.01 (Darkash: +46.52 / Heroic Viktor: +48.49)
3) Team Fluke - 94.40 (phlyerphan1: +49.51 / MoogleKupo141: +44.89)
4) Team Go Go Gadget Copter! - 93.89 (Ness26: +44.14 / Redtooth: +49.75)
5) Team Dieroll - 93.44 (StopPokingMe: +44.96 / Jecht: +48.48)

Will they, or will they not. Lopen and satai_delenn might really get cocky as they get their 3rd Team win with two great predictions, barely (and I mean barely) edging Darkash and tnote who did better than last time, just not quite enough.Team Fluke might be doing just that (or not?) in 3rd while Team Go Go Gadget Copter! takes 4th and Team Dieroll completes the Top 5.

Complete Team Match Ranking:
http://www.oraclechallenge.com/archives.php?contest=SC2k6&type=teammatch&match=33

Team Leaderboard:
1) Team The Spirit of Truth (Draco1214 / Rodri316) - 2988.84
2) Team Unfinished FFP (Ed Bellis / Karma Hunter) - 2986.33
3) Team We Used To Be Good? (Kaxon / King Morgoth) - 2980.58
4) Team Rage of Warcraft (War13104 / DSRage) - 2969.51
5) Team Romanian Potato Soup (The n00b Avenger / GrapefruitKing) - 2961.78

Boooooooooooring! For the first time in almost a week nobody moves on the board! The Spirit of Truth and Unfinished FFP pull away as Team We Used To be Good? slips back a few points once more. The highest movement in the standings is Team Battle with Gilgamesh > JENOVA moving up in 10th.

This match will be interesting to watch. Karma Hunter needs Rikku to get it over 60.04% to stay in the lead. If Rikku finishes with between 56.54% and 60.04%, Draco takes the lead. If Kairi catches a big day vote and brings it under 56.53%, cyko will take the lead. If Rikku finishes with exactly 56.53%, Draco and cyko will be tied.

Actual Top 5's / Expected Top 5's ; simple as that...anything above 1 is over average.

To make it a bit more clear, if you predict a single match with 100 people predicting, you're expected to get 5 / 100 Top 5's, i.e. 0.05; which means if you only predict that match and get a Top 5, your rating is 1 / 0.05 = 20.

Match #34 Results
Rikku 58.28%
Kairi 41.72%

Kingdom Hearts continues to impress - today Kairi held Rikku under 60% and demonstrated that both she and Claire are better than just fodder. The consensus was Rikku with 62.04%, and the average score was 44.62. 119 people predicted a Rikku victory, while 4 took a risk on the Kairi upset.

Best Five Picks:
1) ScorpionX3 - Rikku 58.30% (+49.98)
2) BlAcK TuRtLe - Rikku 58.12% (+49.84)
3) MegatokyoEd - Rikku 58.46% (+49.82)
4) TenkoStar17 - Rikku 58.52% (+49.76)
5) red sox 777 - Rikku 58.00% (+49.72)

ScorpionX3 makes the best prediction of the day. This is his second top 5 of the contest and third lifetime. Black Turtle has the #2 prediction, for his first top five of the contest. MegatokyoEd gets his fourth top five of the contest in third place. A pair of Oracle vets close out the top five - TenkoStar gets his first top 5 of the contest but 15th lifetime, and red sox 777, who gets his 2nd top five of the contest and 24th lifetime.

Complete Match Ranking:

Current Leaderboard:
1) Draco1214 - 1547.86
2) Karma Hunter - 1547.77
3) DSRage - 1544.68
4) cyko - 1544.36
5) Kaxon - 1543.61

We had a new leader! Draco barely takes the lead from Karma Hunter, pushing KH out after only two days on top. Karma Hunter will have a chance to reclaim his crown though, since he only trails by 0.09 points, one of the closest races we've ever had. DSRage drops from second down to third today, and is narrowly trailed by cyko in fourth. Kaxon remains in fifth. The entire top five is now within 4.25 points of each other, so we could see some more swings coming up.

Full Standings:

Top Team Scores:
1) Team Coinflip - 99.40 (red sox 777: +49.72 / Menji76: +49.68)
2) Team Random - 98.55 (XIII is cool: +49.23 / Giggsalot: +49.32)
3) Team Dieroll - 97.67 (StopPokingMe: +48.69 / Jecht: +48.98)
4) Team We Used To Be Good? - 97.66 (Kaxon: +49.28 / King Morgoth: +48.38)
5) Team mvp's - 97.56 (ps2rulezzz: +49.28 / basmeyer42: +48.28)

Today we have a trio of random teams at the top - Team Coinflip (red sox 777 and Menji) in first, Team Random (XIII is cool and Giggsalot) in second, and Team Dieroll (stopPokingMe and Jecht) in third. Behind them are a pair of leaderboard teams - Team We Used To Be Good? and Team mvp's.

Complete Team Match Ranking:

Team Leaderboard:
1) Team The Spirit of Truth (Draco1214 / Rodri316) - 3086.08
2) Team Unfinished FFP (Ed Bellis / Karma Hunter) - 3079.44
3) Team We Used To Be Good? (Kaxon / King Morgoth) - 3078.24
4) Team mvp's (ps2rulezzz / basmeyer42) - 3056.30
5) Team Rage of Warcraft (War13104 / DSRage) - 3053.97

The top three remain unchanged today - The Spirit of Truth is still in first, and leads Team Unfinished FFP by six and a half points. Team We Used To Be Good? gains a little ground but remains in third. Team mvp's returns to the leaderboard with their top 5 score - they seem to be moving on and off the leaderboard almost every day. Team Rage of Warcraft drops one spot down to fifth.

Match #35 Results
Tifa Lockhart 74.55%
The Boss 25.45%

Tifa looked great against The Boss today, coming close to a tripling and providing some support for the theory that Square characters may be stronger this year. The consensus was Tifa with 69.73% and the average score was 44.65. All 124 predictions were for Tifa.

Best Five Picks:
1) OmegaRagnarok - Tifa Lockhart 74.51% (+49.96)
2) plasmabeam - Tifa Lockhart 74.24% (+49.69)
3) Jmast7 - Tifa Lockhart 74.91% (+49.64)
4) Alanna82 - Tifa Lockhart 75.00% (+49.55)
4) Dilated Chemist - Tifa Lockhart 75.00% (+49.55)
4) ertyu001 - Tifa Lockhart 75.00% (+49.55)

OmegaRagnarok gets today's best prediction by a comfortable margin - this is his second top five prediction (both of them #1's). Plasmabeam has the second best prediction, and both of his top fives this contest have been second places. Jmast7 gets third, for his first lifetime top 5. We have a three-way tie for fourth between three legends: former champion Dilated Chemist (getting his 29th top 5), multiple top-10 finisher Alanna82, and ertyu, who's gotten three top 5's this contest.

Complete Match Ranking:

Current Leaderboard:
1) Karma Hunter - 1593.77
2) DSRage - 1592.12
3) cyko - 1589.25
4) Kaxon - 1588.56
5) Draco1214 - 1588.31

There's only one change on today's leaderboard, but it's a big one: Draco makes a low Tifa prediction and falls to 5th, allowing Karma Hunter to retake the lead. Everyone else in the top five moves up one spot. We still have a pretty tight race on the leaderboard - these five are within five and a half points of each other, but there's a six and a half point gap between them and Rodri in sixth place.

Full Standings:

Top Team Scores:
1) Team AAA - 94.60 (Aprosenf: +46.34 / Ayvuir: +48.26)
2) Team I'll Be Here The Whole Time - 94.40 (TheKnightOfNee: +46.57 / catldr24: +47.83)
3) Team Awesome - 94.20 (Dilated Chemist: +49.55 / Z1mZum: +44.65)
4) Team Jigglypuff - 94.00 (Alanna82: +49.55 / kawaiifan: +44.45)
5) Team Fluke - 93.97 (phlyerphan1: +47.07 / MoogleKupo141: +46.90)

As Aprosenf pointed out, we have some interesting numbers here today - Team AAA is first with 94.60 points, and they're followed by Team I'll Be Here The Whole Time, Team Awesome, and Team Jigglypuff, each exactly 0.20 points behind the next. Team Fluke breaks the pattern by scoring 93.97.

Complete Team Match Ranking:

Team Leaderboard:
1) Team Unfinished FFP (Ed Bellis / Karma Hunter) - 3171.91
2) Team The Spirit of Truth (Draco1214 / Rodri316) - 3169.06
3) Team We Used To Be Good? (Kaxon / King Morgoth) - 3167.52
4) Team Rage of Warcraft (War13104 / DSRage) - 3143.00
5) Team mvp's (ps2rulezzz / basmeyer42) - 3142.17

Team Unfinished FFP reclaims the lead that they lost on day 28! The Spirit of Truth drops down to second place, and Team We Used To Be Good? stays in third. There's an impressive 24 point gap between the top three and the fourth place team - which is understandable if you notice the amazing fact that all six people on the top three teams are currently in the individual top 10. Team Unfinished FFP has Karma Hunter (#1) and Ed Bellis (#9), Team The Spirit of Truth has Draco (#5) and Rodri (#6), and Team We Used To Be Good? has Kaxon (#4) and King Morgoth (#7). Last contest no one team had two top ten finishers.

heh, I feel sorry for Xuxon and the Jill pickers. they're literally hundreds of votes off a perfect prediction yet they'll end up with the same amount of points as my 55% prediction. (assuming Peach does win here)
