Topic: Oracle Challenge - BATTLE ROYALE Match 1

I hope this factors into the rankings since I would like a chance to try and bring up my rank after incorrectly picking the winner for today's match.

This will not count toward the rankings from the main challenge - it will be a separate set of rankings.

You know I just figured something out. You are giving points to for every character which means you will count points 'double' since the number of independents is one less then the number of characters. This is ok but this also means that in the last round where there are only 2 characters you have to give double points, so that would make (50-x)*2. Or are you just going to make it 50-x?

The last match will indeed count double - it will use the same scoring system as the rest of the Battle Royale, and not the normal Oracle scoring system.

I'd like to petition a change in the scoring. Giving up to 50 points for each character doesn't make sense. A scoring system more in line with a normal match would be preferable.

I think there are two sensible options:
1) Make the max points for the match 50 points. This would be pretty simple; 50-[sum of abs(difference) for each character].

This would be exactly the same as my system, except that everyone's score would be 250 points lower (and it would be a lot easier to score 0 points). Since this isn't part of the regular contest, I don't see any drawback to score inflation, but there's a big advantage, which is that we can use the existing website code.

2) Since a normal battle has 50 points possible with 2 characters, this battle should have 150 points possible. So basically the given system, but divided by 2.

I don't see an advantage to that compared to the current suggestion, since it wouldn't change anybody's relative position in this contest. Maybe you're thinking it's going to factor into people's lifetime averages? At the moment we're thinking of this one as completely separate, so it won't be part of the lifetime averages.

Another benefit of 1) is that each battle in the Battle Royale would have the same weight. Otherwise, the earlier battles will be heavily overweighted.

Not actually true - unless a lot of people are losing more than 50 points on the first match, then match 1 would be costing them just as much relative to everyone else under your scoring system 1 as it would under my system. However, my scoring system has the overwhelming advantage of being able to use the current website code - we wouldn't even be doing this if that weren't possible. =)
