Match #58 Results
Yuna 42.98%
Zelda 57.02%

In what could be the last predictable match of the contest, Zelda wins comfortably over Yuna. Yuna did do a great job at limiting the damage during the day, and did almost as well as Aeris did against Zelda a week ago. The consensus was Zelda with 57.99% and the average score was 47.63. 101 people picked Zelda to win the match and 2 picked Yuna.

Best Five Picks:
1) Layzerbeam - Zelda 57.01% (+49.99)
2) ps2rulezzz - Zelda 57.05% (+49.97)
3) AmazingKirby - Zelda 57.17% (+49.85)
4) Ngamer64 - Zelda 57.23% (+49.79)
5) Agent M - Zelda 56.80% (+49.78)

Layzerbeam picks up today's top pick with a near-perfect prediction. This is his fourth time in the top 5 this contest. Ps2rulezzz gets the second best pick, his 5th top 5 of the contest. AmazingKirby is in third for his second top 5, followed by Ngamer, who manages to sneak into the top 5 for the first time this contest. Agent M gets fifth, his second top 5 pick.

Current Leaderboard:

3) Draco1214 - 2649.90
4) PeaceOut64 - 2649.62
5) Salient - 2648.93

The leaderboard remained unchanged today, but that's not likely to last. Cyko has a 5.16 point lead over Aprosenf and an 11.26 point lead over everyone else, so he has a little bit of room to work with in the upcoming tossup matches.

Top Team Scores:
1) Team mvp's - 98.94 (ps2rulezzz: +49.97 / basmeyer42: +48.97)

5) Team Don't Get Too Cocky - 98.01 (Lopen: +49.54 / satai_delenn: +48.47)

Team mvp's, already on top of the standings, widens their lead today with the top score of the day. Team Predestined Divination is close behind, continuing their own hot streak. Team Coinflip is up there for the second time in a row and fourth time this week with the third best score. Team Klonoa Alliance puts up another top 5, followed by Team Don't Get Too Cocky (Lopen and satai_delenn). As a change of pace, no one-person teams made the top 5 today. Teamwork does occasionally pay off!

Team mvp's continues to lead, and builds their margin up to 10 points with the top score today. Team Romanian Potato Soup is still in second. Team Predestined Divination passes Team We Used To Be Good? to take third place today, but they're still neck and neck. Team Happy Happyists has reason to be happy as they return to the team leaderboard today in fifth place.

I know we're not going to be predicting the BR as an official part of the Oracle, but I know earlier we'd been discussing how fun it would be to go ahead and continue predicting in the topics anyways, just as a fun bonus.

I realize how difficult it would be to set up the updater script/website/database for this entirely new concept, but how about this idea? We could find a volunteer to enter predictions in manually, just like the old days. BUT, since there's a system in place, they could just enter picks into the database as if they were inputting predictions for 6 matches. So for instance,

Match 1 = Mario final %
Match 2 = Sonic final %
Match 3 = Zelda final %
Match 4 = Sephiroth final %
Match 5 = Link final %
Match 6 = Cloud final %

Is how the database would think of our BR Day One predictions. Then at the end of the day the volunteer would just have to manually enter the final % results, just like in the past, and the website would be able to display results, total points, and all the rest just like normal.

Of course failing that, we could just fall back on the classic Excel solution...

What say you Kax and KM? Is this doable? Do we need to start advertising for a competent volunteer to input this data?

Strangely enough, since the Election Day happened a few days ago in the United States, I decided to predict the outcome of the elections in my area/state, just like how you predict matches in the Oracle Challenge.

And damn, I am surprised Snake is doing very well against Mega Man.

Match #59 Results
Solid Snake 55.33%
Mega Man 44.67%

Snake had to wait a while, but he's finally avenged his two losses to the Blue Bomber in 2003 and 2004. The man who makes the impossible possible managed to do just that by turning a 43/57 loss into a 55/45 victory, and is looking like a real threat to take the entire bracket. Things aren't looking so good for Mega Man, but other elite characters have bounced back from bad years before, so let's hope we get the 90%-scoring Blue Bomber we know and love back in 2007. The consensus for today's match was Mega Man with 50.06%, and the average score was 42.12. Predictions were split right down the middle, with 54 taking Snake and 52 backing Mega Man.

Best Five Picks:
1) Ayvuir - Solid Snake 54.21% (+48.88)
2) IhatethisCPU - Solid Snake 57.00% (+48.33)
3) Karma Hunter - Solid Snake 53.64% (+48.31)
4) KingBartz - Solid Snake 53.60% (+48.27)
5) StopPokingMe - Solid Snake 53.53% (+48.20)

Ayvuir gets the best prediction of the day and his fifth top 5 of the contest with 48.88 points - no one was within 1% today. You know things are getting crazy when IhatethisCPU makes the top five, and that's exactly what happens for the first time of the contest today. Karma Hunter had the third best pick, followed by KingBartz. Old timer StopPokingMe gets fifth, for the 27th top 5 of his Oracle career.

Complete Match Ranking:

Current Leaderboard:
1) cyko - 2700.40
2) Draco1214 - 2695.57
3) PeaceOut64 - 2694.59
4) Salient - 2693.82
5) Aprosenf - 2692.97

Cyko picks the wrong winner but still remains in first, while his closest competitor, Aprosenf, tumbles to fifth. Draco, PeaceOut64, and Salient each move up one step. Surprisingly, no one new moved onto the leaderboard, but that's because the people who picked Mega Man had a comfortable lead over the pack. The top of the standings did get a lot closer together than they were yesterday.

5) Team Battle with Gilgamesh > JENOVA - 91.36 (Janus5000: +45.69 / KleenexTissue50: +45.67)

Team Unfinished FFP gets the top score in today's strangely clustered top 5. No one scored over 94.01 points, but the top three were within a point of each other. Team Bartar was second and Team th3 Bob was third. Then we have a gap before we get to StopPokingMe's solo team, Team Dieroll, in fourth and Team Battle with Gilgamesh > JENOVA in fifth.

Complete Team Match Ranking:

4) Team Predestined Divination (creativename / Ngamer64) - 5360.11
5) Team Accident (MegatokyoEd / Rufus Shinra 18) - 5359.11

Team mvp's holds on to the lead, but allows the second and third place teams to gain quite a bit of ground on them. Team Romanian Potato Soup remains in second, while Team We Used To Be Good? decisively takes back 3rd place from Team Predestined Divination. Ngamer and creativename move down to fourth. Team Accident (MegatokyoEd now going solo) reclaims the fifth place spot from Team Happy Happyists, continuing the game of musical chairs that is fifth place in the team standings.

Match #60 Results
Crono 49.23%
Sonic the Hedgehog 50.77%

Sonic finally manages to get over the hump and becomes the final member of the Noble Nine to beat another Noble Niner. Sadly, he ended Crono's contest run and prevented Crono from taking revenge on Mario in the Battle Royale. The consensus was Crono with 51.24%, and 73 people picked Crono to win the match while only 23 picked Sonic. the average score was 44.09.

Best Five Picks:
1) charmander6000 - Sonic the Hedgehog 50.85% (+49.92)
2) Lopen - Sonic the Hedgehog 50.89% (+49.88)
3) MegatokyoEd - Sonic the Hedgehog 50.91% (+49.86)
4) FastFalcon05 - Sonic the Hedgehog 51.00% (+49.77)
4) Big Bob - Sonic the Hedgehog 51.00% (+49.77)

Charmander6000 is the top scorer today. This is not only his first top 5 of the contest, but his first top 5 since 2004 (although he only predicted 8 matches in 2005). Hit or miss Lopen made the second best prediction, for his 5th top 5 of the contest. MegatokyoEd gets third - his average is now high enough to put him well ahead of the competition if only he hadn't missed a match. FastFalcon and Big Bob tie for fourth. This is the first top 5 of the contest for FastFalcon, while it's the fifth for Big Bob - he now has 1 first, 1 second, 1 third, 1 fourth, and 1 fifth place this contest.

Current Leaderboard:

3) Aprosenf - 2742.69
4) Draco1214 - 2738.80
5) PeaceOut64 - 2737.12

Cyko again hangs on to first despite predicting the wrong winner for the second match in a row, but his margin has now evaporated completely. He leads Salient by 0.06 points, with Aprosenf another 0.38 points behind Salient. This is looking like the closest race to the finish we've ever seen! Salient and Aprosenf each move up two spots today, while Draco and PeaceOut move down two spots by picking the wrong winner.

We also saw defending champ Xuxon move up two spots today to seventh, and Kaxon, ActJef, and King Morgoth all returned to the top 10 with their Sonic picks.

Team Romanian Potato Soup gets pushed down one spot to third. MegatokyoEd moves up to fourth in the team standings with his solo team. Creativename and Ngamer's Team Predestined Divination drops down one spot to fifth - Ngamer picked Sonic, but creativename picked Crono, which dropped them one spot in the standings.

Let's see, I'm currently in 15th and I will try to finish in the Top 10 by the end of this contest. Out of this match, I should be able to jump over Ngamer, basmeyer, and Morgoth to gain 3 ranks. Then, I just need to gain 2 or more ranks on the final match.

Sucks that I won't be able to see anywhere close to the final percentage on Snake/Sonic, so I'll just hope I pegged the final percentage about right...or peg the percentage wrong and just get lucky. :p

Antivote this petition, it sucks and would be wasting bandwidth:

i am so unbelievably frustrated with myself right now. i had fully convinced myself that Snake was going to win and had the post ready to go. but then i changed it at the last possible second. i basically threw away my shot at winning.

and now the L button on my DS isn't working. BAH!

That really sucks. *sigh*

You're in a clique with Vlado and Inviso. That's the nerdy group in the school cafeteria that sits away from everybody else gossiping about the cool kids in whispers, except instead of whispers, it's AIM, and instead of the school cafeteria, it's the board 8 community. -- Shake

*Cries*, mispredicting the winner of three out of four matches is really killing me. Okay, picking Zelda over Samus was admittedly foolish, but I'm such a fanboy of the Blue Bomber and the Blue Blur and it cost me. Stupid Snake.

Yeah, today is my birthday, and the kitchen is visible from the computer, so I got kicked out of the room for a while while my Sister was making a cake.

When I volountarily jinx a match to help you, don't jump....

Somehow I suspect that has to do with me.

A few hours ago, I did some calculating and it turns out I would also jump over Aprosenf in the rankings after this match, meaning I'd gain 4 ranks.

There's also a good chance my team will make the Top 5 for this match.
