Match # 5 Results
Marcus Fenix 36.79%
Kefka 31.99%
Tom Nook 18.69%
Zelos Wilder 12.53%

For the second day in a row we had a surprise winner! Although Marcus wasn't as much of a shock as Scorpion was, Kefka was still favored by more than four times as many Oracle predictors as Fenix to win the match. 39 people didn't have Marcus finishing first or second. The other surprise of the day was how well Tom Nook did and how poorly Zelos did. Apparently Animal Crossing DS has helped Tom Nook gain popularity since 2003. The consensus predictions were: Kefka - 34.86%, Fenix - 27.95%, Tom Nook - 14.72%, Zelos Wilder - 22.24%. The average score was 42.87.

Best Five Picks:
1) daniel2424 - Fenix 40.24% - Kefka 28.24% - Tom Nook 18.24% - Zelos 13.28% (+47.90)
2) jonthomson - Fenix 40.00% - Kefka 29.00% - Tom Nook 17.00% - Zelos 14.00% (+47.66)
3) KingBartz - Fenix 37.00% - Kefka 35.00% - Tom Nook 13.00% - Zelos 15.00% (+47.15)
4) NeoMagic249 - Fenix 30.87% - Kefka 30.18% - Tom Nook 19.28% - Zelos 19.67% (+46.13)
4) supdawg - Fenix 29.26% - Kefka 31.78% - Tom Nook 18.81% - Zelos 20.15% (+46.13)

Thanks to the surprising results, we didn't have any predictions over 48 points today. Those who did do well for the most part foresaw Tom Nook doing well and Zelos bombing. Old timer daniel2424 had the best score with a 47.9, followed by jonthomson with 47.66. KingBartz was third with the only other 47 point score, while NeoMagic249 and supdawg tied for fourth with 46.13.

Complete Match Ranking:
http://www.oraclechallenge.com/archives.php?contest=SC2k7&type=match&match=5

Current Leaderboard:
1) supdawg - 233.79
2) The n00b Avenger - 232.76
3) jonthomson - 232.56
4) Haste2 - 232.37
5) AmazingKirby - 232.26

Today we have two new faces on the leaderboard - supdawg moved up from eigth to take the lead, while jonthomson climbed 36 spots to move into third. The n00b Avenger held steady in second, and Haste2 dropped one spot to fourth. Yesterday's leader AmazingKirby is now in fifth.

2) magical innuendo pirates with guitars - 89.67 (Menji76: +44.91 / Seginustemple: +44.76)

5) Helmasaur King - 88.55 (Xuxon: +43.64 / GrapefruitKing: +44.91)

Today's best scoring team was MegatokyoEd and Redtooth, who don't yet have a team name (but they will soon)! A team with a good name landed right behind them in second, the magical innuendo pirages with guitars (Menji and Seginustemple). Team OH IT'S NESS was third and the defending champs, Team We Used To Be Good? were fourth. Xuxon and GrapefruitKing's Team Helmasaur King was fifth.

Complete Team Match Ranking:

Team magical innuendo pirates with guitars moves on to the leaderboard in second, up from sixth yesterday. The one constant on the team leaderboard, BwG < JENOVA, remains in third (which is the lowest they've been all contest), and Team We Used to Be Good? returns to the leaderboard for the first time since last contest in fourth.

Ngamer buddy, this 4-way prediction stuff is a breeze, right? ;)

*adjusts monocle*

I say old boy, these other chaps predict as though they're a touch soft in the head. What what?

Seriously though, I was amazed to see we'd advanced in the ranks tonight, after the way I blew it on Zelos... but I guess nearly everyone else did the same.

Hopefully we can maintain that spot at least through today... I still like my picks a good bit. KM is under the impression not much will change from now on account of how Saturdays don't have big trends, but Cloud's a guy who has historically dominated and pulled in some of the best totals of the season even on the weekend, so I still contend he's going to give that 60 barrier a run for its money.

Judging by the way the previous matches turned out, KM and Kaxon won't be losing that $60 any time soon. I honestly don't think anyone could even perfectly match a % for one character the whole contest.

Pretty hard to know if you can hold a spot in this format. Our lead is a fraction of a point so it won't last long, but as long as we can hang around the top 5 we'll be good.

I didn't even think of the weekend vote swing thing, interesting.

I was talking much more about Jill/Ocelot the two FFVII boys. Cloud will Aim at 60% and Zolom at 5% due to them exchanging fans but I don't think Ocelot/Jill are going to exchange much percentage outside of sending a few bits Cloud's way...

I found it funny that I just calculated a percentage of 13.37% for CATS in his match, not even on purpose. Of course I had to actually use it as my oracle pick.

Take values on SC2k5 Link (not base Link): SC2k5 Sephiroth (45.06), villian's CATS through adjusted SC2k5 Ganondorf (14.50), bring Peach down to CATS's level and Meta-Knight at an even 10.00%, using King Morgoth's 4-way x-stats.

Cloud Strife 61.24%
Revolver Ocelot 17.68%
Jill Valentine 15.57%
Midgar Zolom 5.51%

Today Cloud got his first match in three years that wasn't against Link, and he didn't disappoint. Jill and Ocelot were left to fight over the scraps, and Ocelot came out ahead. The consensus predictions were: Cloud - 61.29%, Jill - 17.68%, Zolomy - 5.95%, Ocelot - 15.22%. 134 people had Jill advancing while 32 had Ocelot. Everybody had Cloud in first.

Averages are calculated separately based on the scoring system at the time.
Lifetime : Total, from SC2k3 until now
Original: SC2k3 (When picking the wrong winner was worth 25-x)
Classic: SpC2k4-SC2k5 (45-2x)
Modern: SpC2k6-SC2k6 (45-x)
Pure Percentage: SC2k7 (50-x)

PAA is your average difference when compared to the average score for matches you predicted. (i.e. If you score 46 points and the average is 45 for that match, your PAA for the match is +1.00)

The numbers in the brackets are the number of matches you predicted under that scoring system. You need to have predicted half the matches under a scoring system to be ranked.

My most-anticipated matchup of round one arrives tonight. Picking it is especially difficult, since we've yet to see what effect having three characters from the same company is going to have... but personally, these picks where Bowser wins easily are more than a tad confusing. If he DOES beat Ryu by 5%, despite all those other options, then near top-tier Nintendo is going to be truly frightening this year, IMO.

I can't believe how awful I am at this stuff. I'm glad my bracket is looking better than my oracle rankings.

My God, that prediction for today was awful. I didn't had anytime to come and take a look at it and change it ;__;

Also, Bowser is sucking it up right now...this match is not looking good for me.

Oh ****. My prediction for today was awful and I thought I had Toad lower than that. I really should have looked it over.

Match # 7 Results
Auron 43.26%
Shadow the Hedgehog 26.26%
Pyramid Head 16.18%
Chris Redfield 14.30%

lol Chris? Auron rolled over his competition while Shadow was hiding in a corner. I think Pyramid Head managed to scare the hell out of Chris because he apparently asked everyone not to vote for him. And it worked! Consensus: Auron - 40.27%, Shadow - 31.54%, Chris - 17.35%, Pyramid Head - 10.58%. 153 of our 167 predictors accurately called Auron > Shadow which makes us better than the real contest leaderboard. Go us!

Best Five Picks:
1) MMXcalibur - Auron 43.00% - Chris 16.00% - Pyramid Head 14.00% - Shadow the Hedgehog 27.00% (+48.78)
2) Mega Mana - Auron 40.98% - Chris 14.98% - Pyramid Head 15.14% - Shadow the Hedgehog 28.90% (+48.34)
3) octoinky - Auron 41.50% - Chris 16.00% - Pyramid Head 14.00% - Shadow the Hedgehog 28.50% (+48.03)
4) Cokes - Auron 42.96% - Chris 16.87% - Pyramid Head 12.30% - Shadow the Hedgehog 27.87% (+47.91)
5) DaruniaTheGoron - Auron 40.00% - Chris 15.00% - Pyramid Head 15.00% - Shadow the Hedgehog 30.00% (+47.78)

A nice shiny new Top 5 yesterday! Everyone gets on there for the first time of the year but nobody breaks 49 points. You guys don't want the free game after all? MMXcalibur nails the Top pick yesterday, his 3rd All-Time win, putting some distance between him, Mega Mana in 2nd (1st ever Top 5) and octoinky in 3rd (14th Top 5). Cokes and Darunia both also make their first Top 5 pick ever, taking 4th and 5th respectively.

4) AmazingKirby - 326.44
5) MegatokyoEd - 326.43

The n00b Avenger gets cozy and likes it at the top as he keeps first and extends his lead over ONE FULL point. Haste2 moves up one more spot in 2nd while Morgoth jumps up 3 spots in 3rd to spend his 125th day on the leaderboard. Damn, really lost it today. Almost spot on for Bowser and Mewtwo but I put toad about 5% higher than he should be and Ryu about 5% lower than he should be. Ironically....that would average out to about 47.5 points today, and I got a top 20 yesterday with a 46 so I might not be out of it.

Hopefully everyone just did crappier than me.

I might just stop making predictions in which each individual prediction for all of the characters in a match equals exactly 100%. That might just be killing me.

Morgoth's Quickie Quick Questions! - Contest Day 7
1) Is Pyramid Head legit and deserves to come back? Or are his fan ridiculously dedicated?
2) First Knuckles, now Shadow, still like how far Sonic goes in your bracket? Because I sure don't!
3) One week in, the Oracle scoring system, yay or nay?
4) Still think you guys have a shot at winning a free game at some point? =P

Four for tonight, gotta get up for class in 5 hours!

1) Is Pyramid Head legit and deserves to come back? Or are his fan ridiculously dedicated?
Pyramid Head needs to come back to test his worth again... I really think his head-shot back in Sp2K5 killed his votes. He beat an RE character, and Shadow could only beat his votes by like 50%. Arthas needs to come back, too, and obviously Mewtwo, as well.

2) First Knuckles, now Shadow, still like how far Sonic goes in your bracket? Because I sure don't!
I'm not liking my bracket. However, I had much higher expectations of Knuckles than Shadow. I hope Sonic does well, which'll only suggest that Knuckles and Shadow were weaker than expected.

3) One week in, the Oracle scoring system, yay or nay?
Good, I suppose.

4) Still think you guys have a shot at winning a free game at some point? =P
I never thought anyone had a shot.

Woo! #2! Woo!

Here's hoping my recent change to Ryu doesn't bite me back >_<

1) I think he'd be good to see again, as would Mewtwo. This is a heavily-seeded match.
2) After a run of shoddy games and a new Playstation generation filling the ranks of the 13+ crowd, I don't think the series, that is to say, that games from South Africa and Iraq are... uh... *runs*
3) Yay >_>
4) Possibly, if I stick with my gut.
