I hope I get another top 5 today, I'm over 49 points right now.

Ah, this is looking really bad.

I'm probably sitting on a high 48 score today right now, very, very good based on my other results. Cube will cost me 4 points overall though in the contest. I HAD the cube making it through, but changed it. Most of my changes have been good ones though, so can't complain about one bad pick.

Hmph, I'm actually 35th on the leaderboard today. Thought my chances of making that were done after I had Lucario>Marth round 2. Was never even checking until Ngamer mentioned joining all the others there, so that's good I guess :) Though I of course have Tidus in 2nd today.

Anyway, much more importantly, kawaiifan looks like she could be passing me this match...blech. 0.19 points behind indeed. That's about as close as you can get. Me no likey :(

Pikachu 30.30%
Alucard 29.26%
Arthas Menethil 21.21%

Leebo takes third, oneills1 is fourth, and BZero0 is fifth, with all of them scoring over 49.4 points.

Peaceout continues to hold on to third place about two and a half points back. Today The N00b Avenger overtakes Camden for fourth place. Camden is in 5th. Kaxon passes meche and Salient to take 6th, but the gap between the top 5 and everyone else is bigger than ever.

Man, Nero is doing REALLY pathetic today. I was thinking he might go low, but I didn't think he'd be this low... and Amaterasu's performance prevented me from lowering him very much.

I did lower Nero slightly and was glad that I did so. I also raised WCC and Mega Man slightly and also liked those changes too.

I need a lot of votes for Mega Man and not as many for Tidus in the last 15 minutes. The other two picks will cost me very little (got both right to well within 1%). Won't be enough to crack the 49 mark unfortunately, still hoping to do that at some stage this contest.

Match # 41 Results
Mega Man 36.51%
Weighted Companion Cube 28.62%
Tidus 22.75%
Nero 12.12%

The biggest surprise of today's match was Nero bombing much more than people expected. Otherwise expectations were pretty close to reality.

Consensus:
Mega Man - 35.98%
Nero - 15.38%
Tidus - 22.55%
Weighted Companion Cube - 26.18%

Best Five Picks:
1) RPGLord95 - MM 37.00% - Nero 12.00% - Tidus 21.00% - W.C. Cube 30.00% (+49.06)
2) yoblazer33 - MM 35.00% - Nero 14.00% - Tidus 23.00% - W.C. Cube 28.00% (+48.93)
3) cyko - MM 36.67% - Nero 14.12% - Tidus 22.73% - W.C. Cube 26.48% (+48.92)
3) WalrusJump - MM 38.07% - Nero 11.98% - Tidus 20.74% - W.C. Cube 29.21% (+48.92)
5) jonthomson - MM 35.00% - Nero 13.00% - Tidus 22.00% - W.C. Cube 30.00% (+48.87)

RPGLord95 gets his 3rd top 5 today, and the only pick over 49 points after our very high scoring days the last two matches. The rest of the top 5 is tightly packed - yoblazer gets second with 48.93, while cyko and WalrusJump tied for third with 48.92. jonthomson is fifth with a 48.87.

Current Leaderboard:

2) kawaiifan - 1935.47
3) PeaceOut64 - 1932.89
4) Camden - 1932.63
5) The n00b Avenger - 1932.21

The N00b Avenger and Camden trade back today. creativename and kawaiifan are still well ahead of everyone else, and separated by 0.07 points (cue spy music).

Full Standings:
http://www.oraclechallenge.com/archives.php?contest=SC2k8&type=total&match=41

Top Team Scores:
1) Kirby - 97.17 (kawaiifan: +48.43 / Luster Soldier: +48.74)
2) We Used To Be Good? - 97.12 (Kaxon: +48.31 / King Morgoth: +48.81)
3) 31 - 96.63 (PeaceOut64: +48.44 / The n00b Avenger: +48.19)
4) Happy Happyists - 96.61 (Camden: +48.68 / meche313: +47.93)
5) The Returners - 96.54 (cyko: +48.92 / steve illumina: +0.00)

Today's top 5 is dominated by leaderboard teams. Team Kirby gets the best of it and ranks first. Team We Used To Be Good? follows closely behind in second, and current leaders Team 31 get their 14th top 5 of the contest in third. The Happy Happyists meanwhile get their 15th top 5 of the contest in 4th. Finally, The Returners return to the top 5 for the first time this contest, minus steve illumina, who disappeared (as he inevitably does) - congrats to cyko on his top 5.

Complete Team Match Ranking:
http://www.oraclechallenge.com/archives.php?contest=SC2k8&type=teammatch&match=41

Team Leaderboard:
1) Team 31 (PeaceOut64 / The n00b Avenger) - 3865.10
2) Team Kirby (kawaiifan / Luster Soldier) - 3862.22
3) Team Happy Happyists (Camden / meche313) - 3861.53
4) Team We Used To Be Good? (Kaxon / King Morgoth) - 3854.06
5) Team Predestined Divination (creativename / Ngamer64) - 3853.24

As the odd men out today (the only leaderboard team not to make the daily top 5), team Predestined Divination pays the price by dropping to fifth, allowing team We Used To Be Good? to pass them. At the moment this looks like a three horse race between Team 31, Team Kirby, and Team Happy Happyists.

Match # 42 Results
Solid Snake 43.55%
Zero 21.40%
Vivi Ornitier 21.10%
Ryu Hayabusa 13.95%

Who is this old dude and what'd he do with Snake??

Strangely enough, Old Snake seemed to overperform for once... maybe after MGS4 people like him better than before? Zero and Vivi both performed about as expected, but Ryu Hayabusa absolutely bombed, finishing with 2/3 as many votes as a guy he beat last round. This along with his match against Snake last year seem to suggest the two share some kind of fanbase...

Consensus:
Ryu Hayabusa - 20.49%
Solid Snake - 38.31%
Vivi Ornitier - 19.84%
Zero - 21.87%

Best Five Picks:
1) yoblazer33 - Ryu Hayabusa 17.00% - Solid Snake 40.00% - Vivi 21.00% - Zero 22.00% (+48.17)
2) blazndragon0 - Ryu Hayabusa 17.65% - Solid Snake 41.11% - Vivi 20.69% - Zero 20.55% (+48.15)
3) LeonhartFour - Ryu Hayabusa 16.90% - Solid Snake 44.44% - Vivi 19.46% - Zero 19.20% (+48.08)
3) SFF_potential - Ryu Hayabusa 14.51% - Solid Snake 39.72% - Vivi 23.62% - Zero 22.15% (+48.08)
5) Gaddswell - Ryu Hayabusa 16.75% - Solid Snake 40.37% - Vivi 22.31% - Zero 20.57% (+47.99)

Yoblazer... this guy is pretty good at predicting (Mario Kart aside). He has the top score today and his 7th top 5 of the contest. blazndragon0 gets second, while Leonhart and SFF_potential tie for third. Gaddswell gets fifth in this tightly packed top 5.

Complete Match Ranking:

Current Leaderboard:

3) Camden - 1979.55
4) The n00b Avenger - 1979.39
5) PeaceOut64 - 1979.26

creativename continues to narrowly lead kawaiifan, while everyone else fights it out for third place. Today Camden moves up to third, and defending champ The n00b Avenger moves up to fourth, while PeaceOut64 drops two spots. 3rd-5th places are only 0.29 points apart.

5) Multiple Scorgasms - 93.68 (Dilated Chemist: +47.55 / TheCatWhoSwims: +0.00)

Team Carvey Elite imho may not be on the leaderboard, but they excel at daily top scores - this is their 3rd time at #1 this contest. Team Klonoa Alliance continues their streak, now with 4 top 5s in 6 days. Team Muffin Hacks (Ness and Redtooth) get third while having the same score as each other (but different predictions). Team Predestined Divination is 4th and Dilated Chemist and Shake get some scorgasms today (they're going to need more than this if they want to live up to their name!)

Match # 43 Results
Squall Leonhart 30.47%
Sora 28.31%
Yoshi 22.44%
Fox McCloud 18.77%

This is certainly looking like Square's best year since 2004... today Squall and Sora both managed to advance over Yoshi and Fox. What happened to the guy who beat Dante two years ago, and who beat Mario twice in a favorite Mario character poll?

Consensus:
Fox McCloud - 16.17%
Sora - 23.41%
Squall Leonhart - 33.70%
Yoshi - 26.65%

Best Five Picks:
1) supdawg - Fox McCloud 18.55% - Sora 28.79% - Squall 29.21% - Yoshi 23.45% (+49.25)
2) MoogleKupo141 - Fox McCloud 20.00% - Sora 25.00% - Squall 32.00% - Yoshi 23.00% (+48.34)
3) Yesmar - Fox McCloud 15.00% - Sora 28.50% - Squall 32.50% - Yoshi 24.00% (+48.11)
4) Heroic Viktor - Fox McCloud 20.00% - Sora 25.00% - Squall 30.00% - Yoshi 25.00% (+48.10)
4) ActJef1077 - Fox McCloud 20.00% - Sora 25.00% - Squall 30.00% - Yoshi 25.00% (+48.10)
4) Alanna82 - Fox McCloud 20.00% - Sora 25.00% - Squall 30.00% - Yoshi 25.00% (+48.10)
4) BlAcK TuRtLe - Fox McCloud 20.00% - Sora 25.00% - Squall 30.00% - Yoshi 25.00% (+48.10)

Supdawg is the winner today by a mile, with 49.25 points. MoogleKupo gets second with 48.34, followed by Yesmar with 48.11. There's a four way tie for 4th between Heroic Viktor, ActJef, Alanna, and Black Turtle. For supdawg, MoogleKupo, and Alanna this is their 3rd top 5 of the contest, for everyone else it's their first.

Top Team Scores:
1) Anyone want to team with an Oracle has-been? - 95.35 (Darkash: +0.00 / supdawg: +49.25)
2) The Dainty Assassins - 94.76 (Heroic Viktor: +48.10 / Cokes: +46.66)

5) Mother Cat is a Landmine - 93.68 (Xuxon: +46.95 / GrapefruitKing: +46.73)

The Oracle has-been should have stuck around... supdawg once again powers his team to a top 5 appearance without a partner. The Dainty Assassins (Tnote and Cokes) are second, followed by MoogleKupo's team Épuration (another one-man team with the departure of tazzyboy). Team Détresse (Starion and TheArkOfTurus) gets fourth, and Mother Cat is a Landmine is fifth.

4) Team Predestined Divination (creativename / Ngamer64) - 4040.58
5) Team We Used To Be Good? (Kaxon / King Morgoth) - 4039.10

There's finally a change on the team leaderboard, but I'd rather there hadn't been! Team Predestined Divination passes Team We Used To Be Good? to take 4th place.

This match is amazing... Cloud is well on his way to outdoing Link straight up, against what should be stronger competition.

But anyways, I crack up every night when I see the match results, then compare them to the top of the leaderboard. creative didn't even have that large a lead on kawaii to start, she's beaten him something like 8 of the last 9 days... and yet she still can't quite catch up! She's got to be feeling a bit like Sisyphus by this point.

Not only did Zero and Cube just mess up my Snake>Mega prediction, my Cloud>Yoshi prediction is shot down in advance. I have no idea how my bracket is still in the top 200 or so brackets even though I had Sackbag, Cube and L all out by now.

I've made 7 wrong calls this round alone and I'm 11th on the Leaderboard. I have no idea how this is even possible. It's crazy.

Oh wow, what a devastating update for the Used Tos.

Had to wiki the myth reference, but yeah, I know exactly what you're talking about :) I wonder how often she checks the leaderboard. For a while every day when I've checked the leaderboard my lead has just kept shrinking and shrinking, except for a couple days ago I think. Just getting lucky so far I guess. But luck don't last forever...

Match # 44 Results
Cloud Strife 53.49%
Mewtwo 16.91%
Midna 16.16%
Pac-Man 13.44%

Cloud looked like a stud today, continuing the trend of Square looking great this year and Nintendo looking bad. Mewtwo severly disappointed, and barely managed to beat out Midna.

Consensus:
Cloud Strife - 48.86%
Mewtwo - 22.68%
Midna - 13.64%
Pac-Man - 14.74%

Best Five Picks:
1) RPGuy96 - Cloud Strife 51.86% - Mewtwo 17.73% - Midna 16.03% - Pac-Man 14.38% (+49.12)
2) NeoMagic249 - Cloud Strife 55.00% - Mewtwo 18.00% - Midna 15.00% - Pac-Man 12.00% (+48.70)
3) Leebo86 - Cloud Strife 52.34% - Mewtwo 18.69% - Midna 17.76% - Pac-Man 11.21% (+48.31)
4) LeonhartFour - Cloud Strife 54.54% - Mewtwo 18.52% - Midna 12.41% - Pac-Man 14.53% (+48.12)
5) RockMFR 5 - Cloud Strife 51.00% - Mewtwo 21.00% - Midna 15.00% - Pac-Man 13.00% (+47.95)

RPGuy gets his first top 5 of the contest today with the top pick, 49.12 points. NeoMagic is second with 48.7, and Leebo86 gets third with 48.31. The scores really demonstrate the difficulty of today's match, with fourth place Leonhart a full point behind RPGuy's prediction. RockMFR gets fifth.

5) PeaceOut64 - 2071.68

PeaceOut once again drops down to fifth, allowing Camden and n00b Avenger to reclaim the ground they lost yesterday. There's some action just off the leaderboard as well - Ghost Cyborg and Xuxon each moved up 3 spots to take 6th and 7th places, respectively.

5) Don't Walk Around With Your Weiner Hanging Out - 93.77 (Lagoona: +47.75 / Seginustemple: +0.00)

Team Too Fast for the Naked Eye (Wigs and satai) decide to hold still long enough for us to spot them at the top of the team scores. This is their 2nd top 5 of the contest. Team Cardiatomie (Leebo and Haste, minus Haste) get second. Klonoa Alliance gets third and they continue to be one of the hottest teams in the contest right now - they moved up two spots today. Team Predestined Divination makes up some ground on the rest of the leaderboard teams, and Team Don't Walk Around With Your Weiner Hanging Out gets fifth.

From putting up 43% directly on The God Of This Format last round! Though apparently he's not so divine anymore. Also we figured that while Naked Snake might be able to SFF-smash Raiden like what's happening right now, Old Man Big Boss would have a much tougher time hurting him.

Another awesome update! Team PD with a vicious cut on the rest of the contenders, plus creative loses yet another match... yet still stays on top of kawaii! Unfortunately he's only got room to let this happen three more times; talk about cutting it close.

Match # 45 Results
Kirby 31.47%
Master Chief 30.32%
Big Boss 26.17%
Raiden 12.04%

What happened to you, Chief? When you go from hanging with Solid Snake to losing to Kirby, things aren't looking so hot. Meanwhile Raiden demonstrated once again that people don't like him, no matter how much board 8 thinks they should.

Consensus:
Big Boss - 24.99%
Kirby - 27.35%
Master Chief - 30.98%
Raiden - 16.80%

Best Five Picks:
1) transience - Big Boss 28.00% - Kirby 30.00% - Master Chief 30.00% - Raiden 12.00% (+49.08)
2) RPGLord95 - Big Boss 24.00% - Kirby 33.00% - Master Chief 31.00% - Raiden 12.00% (+48.89)
3) mentalmike - Big Boss 24.00% - Kirby 31.00% - Master Chief 30.00% - Raiden 15.00% (+48.52)
3) GoldSlime35 - Big Boss 26.00% - Kirby 29.00% - Master Chief 30.00% - Raiden 15.00% (+48.52)
3) neonreaper - Big Boss 25.00% - Kirby 30.00% - Master Chief 30.00% - Raiden 15.00% (+48.52)

Tranny's Burger King predictions pay off big time! I'm going to have to start predicting from Burger King in London from now on. RPGLord gets second. In third we have a three-way tie between Luster's eternal rival (neonreaper), Luster's jilted former partner (mentalmike), and GoldSlime.

5) Mother Cat is a Landmine - 95.00 (Xuxon: +48.18 / GrapefruitKing: +46.82)

Team Amazingly Oblivious gets their 8th top 5 of the contest, best one of the day. Team Griffonner (mentalmike, carrying The Real Truth on his back) gets second. Uncle Floaty's Wild Balloon Ride V2 (Justin and KingBartz) is third, while Menji also carries his partner on his back to 4th place for Team Propane. I said Ryu > Mega Man 62% or something by accident and I was (I think) 2nd place at the time. Now think of how painful that was! instead of a 0-2 difference (can't remember results exactly), I had a 24+ difference and the added -5 point for predicting the winner wrong.

I love Kax and KM for being so tough, though. Props to them.

I'm going to move this over into the discussion topic to see how other people feel about the way we run this contest. We've always placed an emphasis on running it like a serious competition, which seems like it's been pretty successful. But sometimes I do feel bad about enforcing the rules, Menji's 2600% is one big example. One of the main problems is that it's hard to draw a clear distinction between stuff that's completely obviously a mistake and something that's just probably a mistake. If I were going to try to apply my judgment to the situation, I would probably have allowed Menji to fix his, I would not allow Wigs to change his, and I'd still be losing sleep over what to do with DSR's. =) We've avoided that so far just by going with the "exactly as written" rule. What do the rest of you think about the strictness of rules enforcement in this contest?

Yeah, with some it's completely obvious what they intended, like with Menji's, but I like that you don't allow any wiggle room. Keep it as it is, imo.

Also, I've been doing terrible for all of round 2. :(

I think with the 2600% thing, you just have to give that to him.

But with someone typing the wrong character, well, that really sucks, but I don't think you can really do anything there. Otherwise it opens up a larger potential can of forms.

No can of worms with the 2600% thing though - pretty shocking to me that it wasn't accepted as 26%.

Match # 46 Results
Dante 33.90%
Leon Kennedy 30.80%
Riku 22.23%
Hogger 13.07%

Not too much of a surprise here (except to me) - Dante won and Leon kept it pretty close, while Riku performed poorly.

Consensus:
Dante - 33.60%
Hogger - 13.91%
Leon Kennedy - 27.96%
Riku - 24.49%

Best Five Picks:
1) PeaceOut64 - Dante 34.10% - Hogger 12.40% - Leon Kennedy 30.30% - Riku 23.20% (+49.41)
2) DSRage - Dante 35.21% - Hogger 12.99% - Leon Kennedy 29.97% - Riku 21.83% (+49.34)
3) Paratroopa1 - Dante 33.00% - Hogger 14.00% - Leon Kennedy 30.00% - Riku 23.00% (+49.15)
4) Dilated Chemist - Dante 34.56% - Hogger 12.24% - Leon Kennedy 29.90% - Riku 23.30% (+49.13)
5) oneills1 - Dante 34.10% - Hogger 11.30% - Leon Kennedy 30.95% - Riku 23.65% (+49.11)

PeaceOut64 gets the best pick - despite being on the leaderboard most of the contest, this is his first top 5 this year. DSR gets second, and Para gets third. DC and oneills one round out this high-scoring top 5.

Complete Match Ranking:
http://www.oraclechallenge.com/archives.php?contest=SC2k8&type=match&match=46

Current Leaderboard:
1) creativename - 2170.98
2) kawaiifan - 2170.80
3) PeaceOut64 - 2168.67
4) Camden - 2167.88
5) The n00b Avenger - 2167.74

PeaceOut's top score allows him to reclaim third place. Over the last few days he's gone down 2, up 2, down 2, up 1, up 1, ending up back where he started but being by far the most volatile member of the leaderboard. Kawaiifan also has an excellent day and narrows the gap with creativename back to .18 points, but still hasn't managed to overtake him for more than just that one day quite a while back. creative has been in first place 31 days this contest, which matches his total from his impressive SC2k5 run. Only four people have ever been in the lead for 31 days total (the others being n00b Avenger, King Morgoth, and Bananaquest), and creative has done it twice in two different contests.

Full Standings:

Top Team Scores:
1) 31 - 98.29 (PeaceOut64: +49.41 / The n00b Avenger: +48.88)
2) Palace of Wisdom - 97.90 (Master Moltar: +48.56 / DSRage: +49.34)
3) Kirby - 97.15 (kawaiifan: +49.06 / Luster Soldier: +48.09)
4) Ice Cream - 97.09 (BZer0: +48.74 / ShatteredElysium: +48.35)
5) Predestined Divination - 96.93 (creativename: +48.59 / Ngamer64: +48.34)

Team 31, ladies and gentlemen. I guess when both team members are in the individual top 5, you tend to do pretty well in the team standings. This is their 15th team top 5 this contest. Team Palace of Wisdom gets second (their 10th top 5), followed by Team Kirby, who rack up their comparatively paltry 7th team top 5. Behind them are Team Ice Cream (8 top 5's) and Team Predestined Divination (11 top 5's).

Complete Team Match Ranking:

Team Leaderboard:
1) Team 31 (PeaceOut64 / The n00b Avenger) - 4336.41
2) Team Kirby (kawaiifan / Luster Soldier) - 4332.01
3) Team Happy Happyists (Camden / meche313) - 4332.00
4) Team Predestined Divination (creativename / Ngamer64) - 4325.80
5) Team Mother Cat is a Landmine (Xuxon / GrapefruitKing) - 4321.49

Even though only six teams in the ENTIRE CONTEST moved in today's standings, three of them are on the leaderboard (and one more is dropping off the leaderboard today). Team Happy Happyist's triumph was short-lived, as Team Kirby passed them back up today - but they only lead by .01 points. Team Mother Cat is a Landmine passes Team We Used To Be Good? to move back onto the leaderboard.

Wow, cool.

I don't recall about how close people got at times on that other run, but this one has been *super* luck-aided and flukey, with how close kawaii has gotten so many times.

It's nice to see numbers like that, but it's just largely just a quirky luck thing this time. And there looks to be another great shot that I won't make it to to day #32.
