Very interesting setup for this contest...I filled out my bracket but didn't catch on to the multi-way polls until I read this topic.
At first I didn't like the idea, but it's growing on me. Still, I think one-on-one matchups are much, much more exciting. There's something better about mano-e-mano. But it should still be fun - and in the end, most matches will essentially be the two better character competing anyway, with a couple stragglers just there.
There probably will be at least 1 match where the winner of a heads-up match loses to the guy he beat the previous round. That should be an interesting day on the boards when that happens.

You could do 50-x or 25-x for each character, and then divide by 4 or 2 for each to get the base score back to 50. And by starting with the larger number, it'll keep people from hitting 0.
This seems like the best idea I read.
Heroic Viktor:
and if you pick the wrong winner, take off 5 points. If you miss 2nd, take off another 2.5.
I don't think a winner penalty is necessary, however a -5 penalty for picking the wrong guy as #1 is quite acceptable. I don't think you need to penalize beyond that though - it gets needlessly complicated, and we should try to keep things simple.
Kaxon:
Every match, your score will be 50 - (w + x + y + z)/4, where the letters are the % off you are for each character. This could be expressed more simply as:
Ah - good to see you guys went with a wise choice. Faith in our Oracle leaders always works out :)
However IMO it really should be divided by 2 instead of 4. In a normal contest with 2 character you divide by 1, so with 4 characters you should divide by 2.
