yeah, I've been doing so badly lately. I thought this would be much closer. (because I actually liked the Kerrigan pic and thought it would get her votes.)

But at least I called you winning this thing

Whoa there, you talking about me? There is a looong way to go here :) And the most volatile parts are coming later, since in later matches it's tougher to predict the winner, and the picking the loser penalties can hurt you more often. I'd say that I have less than a 30% shot at actually finishing #1.

I am not arguing with creative ever again

I guess you're talking about the Terra and Kerrigan matches. I was definitely a lot more confident in Kerrigan being a joke than in Terra being really weak. But I actually don't recall ever arguing with you about either? Anyway, the main thing to get out of this is not so much about me (well, except when I say "trust me"...I knew that Kerrigan would struggle to get 30%, though it turned out to be 20%), but that you should never doubt Final Fantasy VII.

Remember, the main thing that even got people on the contest leaderboard in 2K3 was blind FF7 fanboyism.

People always like to make jokes about random characters from FF7 being strong, and then others dismiss them. But those are far more true I think that most realize. "Random Shinra Soldier" probably would be above most of the fodder. I mean, just look at the board hype for Kerrigan. I can pretty much guarantee you that Rufus Shinra—who is rarely mentioned for nominations—would trash Kerrigan. If you are of any prominence in FF7, pretty much everyone at this site is going to know about you. That is no joke.

Yes yes yes, you. And I honestly called it, I ain't only trying to jinx it here... Oh and 30% is an insane lot better than my own chances =P. Though I've been known to make weird comebacks...You'll be hard to catch though as you never make any huge mistake (barring Kuja/MH if my memory serves me right).

But I actually don't recall ever arguing with you about either?
By "arguing" I meant looking at your prediction, laughing my ass off and picking 20% away, pwning myself. You get the picture =P

My Terra prediction was honest, as I really thought she would stand higher than Kefka after seeing Kuja bomb that bad. Not that far high, but enough to try the bracket upset. And Kerrigan in my bracket was one of those "I'll hate me forever if it happens and I didn't take it", an advantage of being ineligible for prizes. I didn't think she could win, but honestly thought she could give Vincent some fight (60-40). I never bought Aeris>Vincent nor Diablo > Kerrigan and I've been pwned on both counts it seems. Samus vs Vincent is going to be a great match (yes, he'll get there, unless Kerrigan is very extremely weak)

Two things that come out of this and that I hate:
How come PC Characters bomb like hell compared to similar characters from console games of equal strength?
How the hell can Ramza, of all people, be above any and all old-FF characters, strength-wise. That just sounds...wrong.

I hate this because I wasn't here. I would probably be around 50th right now if I was here half the time. And that blind faith in FF7 was stupid >_>

My new goal is better than 30th overall which is possible because of people dropping out and matches like last year's Sora vs. Ryu (which helped me gain last year ^_^)

Samus vs Vincent is going to be a great match (yes, he'll get there, unless Kerrigan is very extremely weak)

Crono still has to be the clear favorite. (and while I expect Samus to beat him, you can't dismiss Mario either)

How the hell can Ramza, of all people, be above any and all old-FF characters, strength-wise. That just sounds...wrong.

Final Fantasy Tactics is huge at this site. People brought this up back in the Game contest.

Cecil's weakness certainly surprised me, and Terra's did a little bit too. But it would seem that outside of Chrono Trigger, the old school characters just aren't appreciated here. I have a feeling that perhaps a lot of that has to do with not having their easily recognized sprite pictures...but, that's just speculation. I just think that a lot of their appeal comes from nostalgia, which isn't going to be captured on a name recognition basis by foreign looking pictures.

But I recall hearing that Ramza was the high point for Cecil, and I agreed with that at the time. And I never thought Terra would be that high. So Ramza being stronger than them isn't surprising; but I agree that the magnitude of the difference is surprising (especially for Cecil).

Crono still has to be the clear favorite. (and while I expect Samus to beat him, you can't dismiss Mario either)

To say that Crono is the favorite I'd have to admit that Crash/Sam Fisher >= Kerrigan and you'll never ever hear me say that ;). Oh and I believe Crono/Vincent would be one of those matches where rSFF could happen/make sense.

I can't see Mario pulling some magic against Samus. It can happen, obviously, but since it didn't happen against Link, I'd be surprised if it happened here.

Cecil's weakness certainly surprised me, and Terra's did a little bit too. [...] And I never thought Terra would be that high. So Ramza being stronger than them isn't surprising;
What I'm really surprised about is how farther they are from their game (strength-wise) than new FFs. I had always believed before that Kefka was the strongest FFVI character (and now it looks like he is), but after Crono/Kefka and his other very average matches I simply couldn't sit there and believe that was the best FFVI could do. If Kefka was at 33-35% on Link, I would never have called Terra>Kefka, but damn, I hoped one of them could do better (and after seeing Kuja bomb like that, I thought there was really something against FF Villains). 3 of my favorite characters down in 4 days, that hurts. Oh and Cecil got an unrecognizable and ugly pick, so that doesn't help.

Match #22 Results:
Sarah Kerrigan 21%
Vincent Valentine 79%

Today Vincent scored a huge blowout over Kerrigan. There were 91 Vincent predictions and 8 Kerrigan predictions. The consensus was Vincent with 59.82%, 19.18% off from the actual result - making it the second worst consensus in history by percentage (but not by score, because most people still had the right winner). The average score was 28 points. With this match, we're now one third of the way through the contest.

Best Five Picks:
1) Rufus Shinra 18 - Vincent Valentine 72.96% (+43.96)
2) cyko - Vincent Valentine 72.86% (+43.86)
3) Rodri316 - Vincent Valentine 72.82% (+43.82)
4) radadam - Vincent Valentine 71.34% (+42.34)
5) Aprosenf - Vincent Valentine 69.19% (+40.19)

Rufus Shinra 18 had the best prediction today with 43.96 points. Talk about exceeding expectations - Vincent overshot his highest prediction by more than 6%. Cyko is in second place with his first top 5 of the contest, and radadam in fourth also gets his first top 5. Rodri makes the top 5 for the second day in a row and the fourth time this contest, while Aprosenf gets his third top 5 of the contest.

Complete match ranking:
http://www.oraclechallenge.com/archives.php?contest=SC2k5&type=match&match=22

Current Leaderboard:

2) Heroic Viktor - 966.64
3) Janors - 966.40
4) Darkash - 964.60
5) Dilated Chemist - 962.97

Creativename has achieved air superiority. With his outstanding prediction today (39 points!), he widens his lead over the field to more than 13 points. Heroic Viktor is still in second but he now has less than a quarter of a point cushion. Janors, who's been moving on and off the leaderboard for the last few days, is back in third place today. Darkash drops one spot to fourth, and the champ, Dilated Chemist, makes his triumphant return to the leaderboard in fifth.
