So long, 10th place. Looks like I don't quite get to validate the top 10 precontest.

What an update! I have no idea how everything we've thought we knew about these characters for the past five years could blow up in our faces like this, but I love it!
KM, think you could give us a Snake/Samus breakdown? Overall, and then maybe how many in the Top Ten/25/etc went with the incredibly gutsy and brilliant Samus pick?

63 people predicted a Snake victory.
26 Oracles backed Samus.
If Samus can hold on to win the match, cyko will have pulled off the luckiest turnaround in Oracle history to win the title. If Snake comes back to win, Salient is our Oracle champion. Everyone else has been eliminated from contention.
And on a more personal note, this is why you play to win. This is why I picked Cloud over Link in 2004. Cyko, I can't believe that you tried to give up... or how lucky you are that you failed! No matter which way this goes, this was definitely one of the most dramatic Oracle Challenges ever... one for the books!

No kidding. I was peeved at Snake beating Mega Man, but after Sonic somehow beat Crono, I just said "**** it" and rooted for my faves.

Wow, I didn't realize how many of the top 10 picked Snake. Despite my dismal performance in the last 4 matches, I'll actually end up 4th if Samus holds on. Oh, and congrats cyko for the daring pick!

Match #62 Results
1 54.99%
2 45.01%

2) Team Soda Chugging Soldiers - 93.95 (Luster Soldier: +46.61 / Cokes: +47.34)

Team Unfinished FFP takes yesterday's best Team pick with two solid predictions as they want to show they're still in this! Team Soda Chugging Soldiers take 2nd place more than a point behind. Team Better Than Last Time takes 3rd, barely beating Team Random who take their 2nd Top 5 in a row and Team SPO*N who barely grab 5th.

Well, I just took a look at the standings and today's predictions. Unless Snake comes back and gets near 53% of the total votes, then Ness26 will finish just ahead of me in overall points for the second year in a row. Granted, we're not on the leaderboard, and he unfortunately missed match, which means I've sucked more, but finishing right behind him again... ;_;

Well, I guess I"m expected to say... something right about now. I'll save any long, drawn out posts till this whole thing is settled. But... wow... 5 seconds... after two months... I can't say a crazy finish like this wouldn't be fitting for absolute craziest Oracle Challenge of all time. Of course, not to already be making excuses or anything, but there seems to be a pretty serious problem with the poll when viewed in Internet Explorer, leaving the vote totals more than 20,000 below the last two... So, excuse me if I feel just a little bit cheated in multiple ways. Still, whatever happens, it's been a blast, everyone (especially Cyko), and goes down in my mind (with as little bit of bias as possible :) as the best Oracle ever. Glad I could be a part of making it such and keeping it interesting till the end...
And for now... I guess I should get to thinking about that Battle Royale... :)

Unless BOTH Snake and Samus's matches against Zelda were comlete flukes, I just don't see how Samus is winning after all this. I mean Snake beats Mega Man and Sonic, (Who beat Crono, who was is Samus's tier before this) Samus did poorly against Tifa and Zelda.....and now she's winning?

I suppose the answer is that Samus stayed consistently strong, Zelda and Tifa boosted for whatever reason, Sonic Crono and Mega Man all fell a little bit in varying amounts, and Snake boosted but not to Samus's strength.
---
While the first two matchups were deceptively disappointing, I should have known the third time would have been the charm for Solid Snake! Unfortunately for me, Karma Hunter did.

Or you could just say that Samus against Zelda/Tifa were just matches that can't be taken too seriously, just like Sephiroth against Ganon/Bowser in the Villians contest.

9) The n00b avenger - 2863.16 (-16.52)

Though it's possible I made an arithmetic error, I did all of these by hand.

WOW. just..... WOW...... when i saw Samus take the lead and hold onto it for the first ten minutes, my jaw hit the floor. i couldn't believe that Samus could win this match, and i actually still had a shot at winning. i honestly thought there was no way Samus was going to win and didn't really want to stick with Samus. but being five seconds late stuck me with her and i couldn't be happier. this has got to be one of the few (if only) times that making a mistake actually benefited someone (just ask pikaness, DSRage, or Megatokyo Ed.... )
And on a more personal note, this is why you play to win. This is why I picked Cloud over Link in 2004. Cyko, I can't believe that you tried to give up... or how lucky you are that you failed! No matter which way this goes, this was definitely one of the most dramatic Oracle Challenges ever... one for the books!
well, i wasn't giving up on second place, lol. i just really thought Snake was poised to win after slaughtering Mega Man and Sonic. it still defies logic that Zelda and Tifa could do so well against Samus, only to have Samus walk right past Snake. and trust me, i still can't believe how lucky of a break that was for me!! all personal bias aside, that definitely made for the craziest and closest finish to any Oracle Challenge so far.
this has been a great contest, everyone! Salient, you fought very well and made one heck of a comeback! and thanks for the congrats, Salient, Aprosenf, Kaxon, and creativename! ^_^
FIRST PLACE!!!!!!! WHOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!
now, where's Morgoth? i owe him some sweet love. >_>

Just look at Aprosenf's figures. I'm smashing my head on the keyboard since I made a stupid typo...=P
I could have made history but now I'm only....meh...looking like an idiot =P

wait, I'm having a bit of brain trouble
if Samus' % goes up, do I beat Morgoth or does he beat me?
I locked myself out of the Top 5 by posting 50.00 instead of 50.01 as I had written down. Stress + last-second post does that sometimes. Can't catch up with anyone despite the last-minute ditch....*sighs*
***
Oh and I'll obviously jump in and congratulate cyko on a great win. Kinda sad to see my 2860.20 record going down but records are made to be broken right? Kudos on a great run, an amazing show and a win with style. We all need luck at some point don't we? *bows down*
Salient, Draco, Aprosenf and ActJef, nicely played too, You guys now have a place in Oracle history. A leaderboard finish in the toughest Oracle Challenge in history is no small feat...
And sadly, it looks like I can't retire just yet, the old geezer still has some strength left in him after all...=P

thanks Haste2 and Morgoth! ^_^
i didn't realize that i also earned that record until you said something, Morgoth. not only that, but i somehow managed to tie Megatokyo Ed for the highest contest average as well!
i guess all we have to do now, though, is sit back and watch the Battle Royale.

Match #63 Results
Solid Snake 46.88%
Samus Aran 53.12%
Funny how things can change... after spending the first three rounds of the contest as the overwhelming favorite to win it all, Samus went into the finals against Snake as a big underdog... and proceeded to outperform Sonic and Mega Man by 8% against him, putting herself leagues above most of the male bracket. The consensus for the final match was Solid Snake with 51.70%, and the average score was 41.63. 63 people picked Snake, while 26 bold Oracles stuck with Samus and were rewarded.
Best Five Picks:
1) Brakmaster - Samus Aran 52.93% (+49.81)
2) ECW RVD420 - Samus Aran 53.47% (+49.65)
3) daniel2424 - Samus Aran 52.24% (+49.12)
4) Aprosenf - Samus Aran 52.14% (+49.02)
4) Luis_Sera89 - Samus Aran 52.14% (+49.02)
Brakmaster got the final top pick of the contest, raising his total to three top 5's this time around. ECW RVD420 returned to the top 5 for the second day in a row in second, as did daniel2424 in third. Aprosenf and Luis_Sera89 tied for fourth with 49.02 points.

Final Leaderboard:
1) cyko - 2879.72
2) Salient - 2875.71
3) Draco1214 - 2872.96
4) Aprosenf - 2868.55
5) ActJef1077 - 2865.55
The Summer 2006 Oracle Challenge is in the books, and cyko is our sixth Oracle champion! Despite his best efforts to pull defeat from the jaws of victory, cyko posted the change which would have handed the title to Salient five seconds late. Salient joins Bananaquest, creativename, and GoldSlime (and arguably MegatokyoEd as well) on the list of people who "should" have won an Oracle Challenge, but he'll have to settle for second place instead. Still a great finish for someone who's shown a lot of promise for the past four contests, but never managed to make the final leaderboard. Salient did hold the lead for two days and had an outstanding run there for a while close to the end.
Draco ends in third place, and this is definitely a breakout contest for him. After he first showed up midway through the Villains contest, he predicted all of Character Battle IV and the Series Contest, but finished in the middle of the pack both times. His third place establishes him as a force to be reckoned with.
Aprosenf boldly picked Samus to win the match, and reversed a recent slide to jump 11 places from 15th to fourth - not a bad final day of the contest! This is also his first top finish, although he's been around for the last four challenges and predicted all of the last two. The final spot on the final leaderboard belongs to ActJef, who made a furious last minute push - he cracked the top ten for the first time just three days ago, and was in the mid 20's two weeks ago. This was also only his second Oracle Challenge, making him the most successful 2006 newcomer in this contest.
A little bit lower down the standings we have an Oracle first - not one, but two people missed the final leaderboard by 0.01 points. The two people tied for sixth were PeaceOut64 and Oracle co-host King Morgoth who picked Samus to win the match but didn't raise his prediction the .01% necessary to make the top 5! His overall record is still amazing however, with a win, 2nd place, 3rd place, and now a 6th place to his name. PeaceOut may not be quite as frustrated, as this is his best finish to date, although he's had a string of 2x place finishes in 4 out of 6 previous contests.
The aforementioned MegatokyoEd, who for a while had a higher average score than the contest leader, ended up finishing with an average 0.002 below cyko's, so it's far from clear what would have happened if he hadn't missed a match. On the match he did miss, Yoshi vs Riku, 69 out of 161 people scored above the 45.84 points MegatokyoEd would have needed to win the title. So, as a rough estimate we can say there's about a 43% chance he would have won if he hadn't missed a day.
I planned to mention DSRage's final score here so we could see how he would have done without his 21.08 point typing mistake, but unfortunately he ended up getting disheartened and missing three matches, so the world will never know.

It's finally happened - all five of the top teams are actually solo efforts who've been abandoned by their partners. Brakmaster, Luis_Sera89, Aprosenf, cyko, and FastFalcon are the heroic team leaders, while Applekidjosh, XxSoulxX, Ayvuir, steve illumina, and swirldude are their ignoble partners who couldn't handle the pressure - may their names live in infamy!

Would you look at that? The winners of the first full-length (63 match) team Oracle Challenge are none other than King Morgoth and myself, Team We Used To Be Good! Perhaps our skills haven't attrophied entirely after all. Team Romanian Potato Soup (The n00b Avenger and GrapefruitKing) got bumped out of the top spot on the final day, losing by a mere 0.36 points. Last contest's champions Team mvp's (ps2rulezzz and basmeyer42) finish in third, giving them a very impressive lifetime record. Team Predestined Divination (Ngamer64 and creativename) are our second two-time leaderboard team, this time in fourth (down from third last contest). Also, for the "unofficial" post, congrats to cyko on the title! You had an amazing contest, despite the missteps at the end there.
Salient, I definitely feel bad for you finishing in second - you losing was definitely one of the unluckiest things that's happened in this contest. And I know what it's like to come close to winning and miss it... that's why I'm still around trying to win this thing today!
Everyone else, thanks for participating! Seeing this contest grow and people getting into it is what makes it worth doing. There will be a lot more stats and writeups in the next few days, but for now I need to get some sleep, so check back!
Also, big thanks to King Morgoth for helping me run this thing again. ^5 on the team contest title!

Congratulations, cyko. Good work on that crazy comeback. And congrats to all the other people in the top 5. I've discovered a 63 match contest is much more grueling than a 31 match contest, and getting up there in the end is tough.

16th is easily my best finish. shoulda been higher though if I hadn't gotten all bold on that last pick.
curiosity - are you counting Link/Cloud (or whatever the BR final is) as this contest or the BR contest? cause it's gonna be a regular old match.
