It was all part of SB's plan. Screw over the people with low Akuma and Geno picks!

Xuxon
But he didn't make any of those picks.

This is what I was thinking. Those hypotheticals aren't particularly convincing here, I have to say.

n00b
If I were put into his position I would personally just accept my mistake and move on. If he decides to do that instead of petitioning for a change or something there's no reason to pursue this

Yes, this is a nice point to draw the line.

If I were put into his position I would personally just accept my mistake and move on. If he decides to do that instead of petitioning for a change or something there's no reason to pursue this

I don't think that's what I would do :)

King Morgoth
How the backlash is 10 times bigger than with DSRage's slip I'll never understand.....

Because that was a place where you couldn't make a judgement call without opening a can of worms. IMO there is no can of worms here in this instance.

Ngamer
who had fair warning, a week to change his pick,

The fact that he should have checked, and had warning, are definitely the best reasons against fixing this. Though, where was the warning? Because I don't think anyone reads the actual picks topic - I don't know if Kaxon and King Morgoth even really do that. Was it in this topic? That would be a grey area then.

If it was by email or IM of course, then that's case-closed. But that would clearly be going above and beyond the call of duty for our admins.

ShatteredElysium
DSRage did a similar thing to Alec and dropped 21 places from second place three-quarters of the way through the contest.

If I had made DSRage's mistake, I would expect nothing. I would know that cannot be fixed, it was my own fault, and the admins are essentially powerless to do anything. In this instance, I have to say, I would expect something.

and a teammate who, if he's really that concerned about their score, ought to have been watching his back

Well this cannot be expected, ever. This path simply cannot be gone down.

Kaxon
But there's no clear line between what's obvious and what isn't

Wherever that line is, it's clear with this lies relative to it, I think.

Anyway, not to gang up on our beloved leaders, just putting in my 2 cents ^_^ Kaxon and King Morgoth doing an overall stellar job as always, and due to their efforts the Oracle is my favorite part of these contests :)

the oraclechallenge website is already listing the results for 12:00. Don't know if that will be considered official or not, but I should think so. Kind of unfair to predict that a match will run nearly an hour late >_>

I doubt the %s will move much anyway

Match # 30 Results
Sora 41.87%
Lara Croft 25.84%
Albert Wesker 24.12%
Daxter 8.17%

I have no idea how to predict this contest... Daxter completely bombs while Wesker comes close to challenging Lara. Sora wins comfortably, but not by as much as expected. The consensus predictions were Wesker - 19.32%; Daxter - 13.21%; Lara - 24.00%; Sora - 43.41%. The average score was 45.57.

Best Five Picks:
1) Jmast7 - Daxter 10.00% - Lara 25.00% - Sora 40.00% - Wesker 25.00% (+48.64)
2) Menji76 - Daxter 10.00% - Lara 26.00% - Sora 41.00% - Wesker 21.20% (+48.55)
3) DaruniaTheGoron - Daxter 8.00% - Lara 27.00% - Sora 44.00% - Wesker 21.00% (+48.35)
4) MoogleKupo141 - Daxter 10.35% - Lara 23.11% - Sora 41.21% - Wesker 25.33% (+48.30)
5) raytan7585 - Daxter 10.89% - Lara 26.52% - Sora 38.04% - Wesker 24.55% (+48.08)

Jmast7 gets the best pick today, his first of the contest! He scored 48.64 points. Menji is second, also his first top 5 this contest (he has 11 previous t5's). DaruniaTheGoron is in third, and he's been getting multiple top 5's (4 so far). MoogleKupo141 gets fourth while raytan gets fifth, which pushes him into the lead in the race that really matters, his race against Amy.

Complete Match Ranking:

Current Leaderboard:
1) The n00b Avenger - 1397.87
2) Master Moltar - 1392.08
3) creativename - 1391.22
4) MegatokyoEd - 1388.62
5) DSRage - 1388.43

The top three is still n00b, Moltar, and creativename in that order, as it has been for the last four days. MegatokyoEd moves up one spot into fourth, but the big news is DSRage climbing 4 spots to finally make it back onto the leaderboard. He spent 39 days there last contest, but dropped off after making the most epic mistake in Oracle history. Now he's proving that the first contest wasn't a fluke.

5) Rage of Warcraft - 94.59 (War13104: +46.81 / DSRage: +47.78)

It's the magical innuendo pirates with guitars! They're back on top thanks to two individual top 6 predictions. Team Discovery Channel gets their fourth top 5 of the contest. Team Two-Faced Gorons, the center of a more recent mistake controversy than DSRage's, get third for their first top 5. Team OH IT'S NESS, the two surprise stars of the spring 2k6 Oracle Challenge, get their 7th team top 5 of the contest, followed by Rage of Warcraft with their 5th.

5) Team We Used To Be Good? (Kaxon / King Morgoth) - 2761.17

Team Rage of Warcraft finally reaches second, after spending a total of 22 days in 3rd, 4th, and 5th so far. Team mvp's is back down to third, and Team Big Black Wangs move down to fourth. Team We Used To Be Good? is still hanging on in fifth, but they're now being threatened by Team OH IT'S NESS, who gained 5 points with today's picks. Oh, I forgot about that one. It wasn't as dramatic as Rage's since you weren't at the top of the standings when it happened, but the ultimate effect was even greater...

Did anyone predict Duke > Gordon in the oracle?

Yep, one person. (I'm not sure who, it'd take longer to figure that out). There were 5 other people who had either Duke > Ike > Gordon or Ike > Duke > Gordon.

after making the most epic mistake in Oracle history

heh, what about my epic "mistake" of accidently picking Samus over Snake in the final match last year after my change to Snake was a minute late - propelling me from third to first over Salient?

^_^

and for the record, as painful as it is for Alec and Darunia, Kax and Morgoth are doing the right thing by not interpreting other people's picks. even when a mistake is painfully obvious, they have made it abundantly clear that it's not their job to assume what people mean with by their picks. keep up the good work, guys.

Have you ever had a mistake like this before that you could tell FOR SURE what the person obviously meant and not reversed it?

That thing I posted up there...
There was a change to Mega Man with 62.34% 8 minutes before that, there's never been a doubt in our minds that he never meant to go with Ryu but that's a can of worms we cannot open.

How the backlash is 10 times bigger than with DSRage's slip I'll never understand.....

Oh and I suggest we close the poll right now before the day vote absolutely kills my prediction.....

DS Rage's error was a mental mistake though, which IMO is much different from a simple slip of the finger which added a 5 to the prediction number. It's a much harder mistake to make to type out "Ryu" when you mean Mega Man, than it is to accidentally hit the 5 key once.

But whatever, I don't even really care for my team's sake anymore. We're way back in 30th and we have absolutely no chance of even getting top 10 at this point, while Alec was way back in 85th in singles. Right now it's more of a precedent issue for sure and that's for you and Kaxon to decide, I'm just giving my two cents.

There were 5 other people who had either Duke > Ike > Gordon or Ike > Duke > Gordon.

One of those garnering himself a 7th place finish, thank you very much!

I'm liking the no penalty system right now....>_> <_<

Match # 31 Results
Duke Nukem 30.18%
Gordon Freeman 29.57%
Ike 28.76%
Guybrush Threepwood 11.49%

The curse of Gordon Freeman lives on! Although he did manage to advance to round 2, Gordon once again managed to lose a match where he was heavily favored to win... this time to the guy whose game has been delayed for over ten years, Duke Nukem. The beginning of the match was the most exciting we've seen all contest, but after the first half hour the characters began to slowly spread out into the positions where they would finish. The consensus predictions were Duke Nukem - 24.64%; Gordon Freeman - 34.74%; Guybrush Threepwood - 12.78%; Ike - 27.67%

Best Five Picks:
1) Link versus Cloud - Duke Nukem 29.59% - Gordon Freeman 29.63% - Guybrush 11.07% - Ike 29.71% (+49.49)
2) Redtooth - Duke Nukem 30.00% - Gordon Freeman 30.00% - Guybrush 10.00% - Ike 30.00% (+49.16)
3) RockMFR 5 - Duke Nukem 29.00% - Gordon Freeman 30.00% - Guybrush 13.00% - Ike 28.00% (+49.03)
4) Agent M - Duke Nukem 28.00% - Gordon Freeman 30.00% - Guybrush 13.00% - Ike 29.00% (+48.91)
5) Iubaris - Duke Nukem 27.65% - Gordon Freeman 29.87% - Guybrush 13.16% - Ike 29.32% (+48.73)

We have a bunch of first timers in today's top 5! Link vs Cloud gets his first ever top 5, and ties for the fourth best prediction of the contest at 49.49 points. Redtooth places second for his second top 5 of the contest. RockMFR is third and Agent M is fourth - both of them are in the top 5 for the first time this contest at well. Finally, Iubaris gets fifth - he was in the top 5 one previous time, three days ago.
